SCHMID sells a 60 MW module line to Magnum Pv in Canada

(pressebox) Freudenstadt, 18.05.2011 – Magnum Pv, based in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, was founded as a sister company of Magnum Integrated Technologies Inc.TM in 2010. Magnum is a leading Canadian mechanical engineering company and turnkey supplier to the metal-working and power industries. It will now rely on high-end production equipment and expertise supplied by Schmid for its entry into Ontario’s booming photovoltaic market.

The first Schmid module line in North America will be delivered to Brampton, Ontario in September this year. This will enable the first module with UL 1703 certification to be manufactured on site as early as mid-October. Magnum Pv is also relying on Schmid’s expertise in the module certification, taking advantage of Schmid’s „Module Certification Support“ provision. The relevant certification modules for the Canadians are already being produced to Magnum’s specifications on the equivalent module production system at the Schmid Technology Center in Dunningen. This means that the five-month process required for UL certification can commence long before the system is installed at Magnum’s Brampton site. Once the installation is completed, Andre Nazarian, President and CEO of Magnum Pv, will be able to hold the UL Certificate in his hands and begin module production immediately.

Technical support for the project on site will be provided by Schmid Systems Inc. (SSI), based in Oakdale, MN, USA and a member of the Schmid Group. Schmid expects to welcome staff from Magnum Pv to Germany in the coming weeks for training on the production line located at the Schmid Technology Center in Dunningen, Germany.

At the heart of the line is a membrane-free stacking laminator, which meets the highest standards for the production of consistently high quality solar modules. The laminator is designed with four levels for a line capacity of 120 MW. This will facilitate an upgrade scheduled for 2012 to a fully automatic module line with double the original capacity.
