October 13, 2013 – Most people have experienced lower abdominal pain especially women and the elderly. Although most of the time it tends to be nothing major sometimes it may be something more serious and unless you find out for sure early enough it may cause you serious complications.
Diagnosing though is not always an easy job since many diseases have this symptom and they tend to change over time and a pain in one gender may mean something entirely different than the same pain in a different gender. The main causes though are inflammation, infection, abnormal growths and intestinal disorders.
Some of the causes in men include appendicitis which is the sudden inflammation of the appendix, the Inguinal hernia which occurs when abdominal contents protrude through a weakness in the abdominal wall bulging into the groin or scrotum, formation of kidney stones, Crohn’s disease which is an inflammatory bowel disease that lasts throughout a patient’s life and colorectal or bowel cancer.
Some of the causes in women are pelvic inflammatory disease which is a general term for infection of the female reproductive system, urinary tract information which happens when germs invade the urinary tract, menstrual cramps, painful ovulation, preterm or premature labor which is labor that begins anywhere between 20 and 37 weeks of pregnancy, endometriosis which is a condition in which the tissue that lines the uterus(endometrium) grows on different organs outside the uterus, ectopic pregnancy which is a form of pregnancy in which the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus.
Therefore as you can see there are very many causes of lower abdominal pain and if they are not diagnosed properly then you wouldn’t be able to know what is the problem and therefore you wouldn’t know how to treat it.
