ContiTech improves SCR Lines

(pressebox) Hanover, 02.05.2011 – Engine manufacturers are faced with major challenges: Their products must be manufactured at lower cost, they must be more environmentally friendly and more efficient, and at the same time, the engines must perform better. Furthermore, more stringent emission levels put pressure on the sector. As the world’s largest rubber and plastics technology specialist, ContiTech AG (booth H12 in hall 25) is making a considerable contribution to realizing future-compatible engine generations with the second hose line generation for the exhaust gas purification technology SCR. „Here, we transfer the know-how from the commercial vehicle sector specifically to the engines in other vehicles,“ says Robert Wurm, head of ContiTech Fluid Technology’s Industrial Hose Assembly segment.

Selective catalytic reduction technology (SCR) is employed in diesel engines to transform harmful nitrogen oxide (Nox) into steam and nitrogen with the help of a urea solution. The heated high-performance hoses developed by ContiTech specially for this purpose on EPDM basis transport the urea reliably to where it’s needed and ensure that the aqueous urea solution does not freeze at low temperatures.

Alongside these tried-and-tested lines, the company has now launched a second-generation SCR hose line on the market. It is equipped with heated quick connectors with optimized bonding, guaranteeing that the medium always thaws, right up to the connection. Two types of bonding are available: a PUR overmold for the entire connector or a modular system. ContiTech also offers three hose types: the previous standard solution; an advanced, higher-quality rubber hose with butylin layer; and a plastic solution.
