High Purity Lead Market: Definition and Introduction
High purity lead refers to lead of 99.99% or greater purity. Lead is one of the oldest metals used by the human race with lead artifacts and structure dating back to 3000 BC. High purity lead is also known as refined lead. Lead occurs rarely in its natural state and is extracted from ores. Galena, Cerrusite and Anglesite are the three most important ores that are mined. These ores account for 95% of the production of high purity lead. The production of high purity lead from ores can be categorized in three broad stages. First, ore concentration is carried out using the froth floatation process to separate obtained concentrated lead ore from silicates and clays (gangue).
The second stage of high purity lead production is smelting. The lead concentrate is mixed with limestone and filtered, then smelted in a blast furnace. The resulting molten lead produced from smelting is of 99.5% purity with miniscule impurities consisting of either antimony, silver or even gold, depending on the ore. The final stage for making high purity lead is refining. The lead obtained from smelting (also known as bullion lead) is refined through various processes to remove traces of other substances including arsenic, zinc, antimony, silver and gold. The final product is 99.99% pure lead and is referred to as high purity lead.
Considering these aspects of high purity lead, the study of the trends and forecasts in the high purity lead market becomes an important read.

High Purity Lead Market: Dynamics
High purity lead finds application across various industries due to its unique properties. The automotive industry uses high purity lead for lead-acid batteries, wherein it is used in both dioxide and metal forms. High purity lead finds application in protection and sheeting applications; for example, in nuclear reactors, since lead is a highly dense material. High purity lead is also used in x-ray equipment owing to its radiation absorption abilities. Also, the sound and vibration absorption property of high purity lead is useful in various applications.
High purity lead is used across industries either in the pure form or it is alloyed with other materials, depending on the requirement. Thus, the increasing demand for vehicles and batteries will drive the market for high purity lead during the forecast period. High purity lead can also be produced by recycling existing products without significant loss of properties. This secondary production of high purity lead helps make use of end of life products. However, the health hazards from the harmful effects of high purity lead on exposure to humans through air or water are a cause of concern and have led to regulations curtailing the use of high purity lead.
