(pressebox) Hannover, 01.02.2011 – In future, hoses used to transport oxygen and oxy-fuel gases, as well as flux agents, have to be certified to DIN EN ISO 3821 and labeled accordingly. The standard worked out by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), in which 163 countries worldwide are members, supersedes the European DIN EN 559. Attention was drawn to this change by Hubert Butterwegge, head of industrial hose sales at ContiTech AG. As one of the leading German manufacturers of elastomer hoses, ContiTech is represented in numerous national and international standardization committees, in which function it contributed to ensuring that the technical requirements for oxyacetylene hose material and manufacture as contained in DIN EN ISO 3821 correspond to those defined in DIN EN 559.
The new standardized labeling applies for all newly manufactured oxyacetylene hoses. Butterwegge drew special attention to the fact that there is thus no need not to replace ahead of time any hoses labeled as conforming to DIN EN 559 and already in service in installation and heating operations, foundries and shipyards, for the construction of bridges and steel structures, in car bodywork shops and in civil engineering, or in welding workshops and on milling machines.
