(pressebox) Cologne, 27.01.2011 – telegate AG, the German multichannel provider of local search and operator of the telephone information line 11 88 0, is changing its SAP hosting provider and is focusing on cloud computing for ERP operations. The medium-sized outsourcing specialist, Pironet NDH, is providing the telegate SAP system in its highly secure data centres with virtualised hardware resources from its business cloud. As part of the service team, the consultancy firm Gambit Consulting is responsible for the integration of the ERP service.
RAM and CPU for SAP from the cloud
At telegate, client invoices for media services are one of several things that make high demands on the SAP service. As a result of the possibility of accessing computing power and memory according to requirements, telegate can capture peak loads for SAP. „In this way, we achieve a high level of availability without oversized hardware equipment,“ explains Michael Geiger, Head of the Application Management Department at telegate AG. Additionally, Pironet NDH safeguards availability through the redundant operation of the SAP instances. The outsourcing service provider mirrors the productive servers as well as the cloud storage area network for telegate SAP, in order to switch to the replacement system if required.
The contract with Pironet NDH is now the Munich company’s second SAP hosting project. Michael Geiger explains the switch through the holistic service approach of the medium-sized provider: „Pironet NDH offers us cost advantages through cloud computing as part of an overall package. For us, the only thing that makes sense is having a comprehensive service promise that encompasses the quality of the entire SAP operation, rather than just isolated infrastructure services from the cloud.“
On an equal footing where SAP hosting is concerned Geiger also states that the medium-sized focus of Pironet NDH was a further motive for switching providers: „In day-to-day outsourcing practice we have noticed that being on an equal footing is a prerequisite for reliable and effective SAP hosting on an ongoing basis. In the event of incidents or changes, communication is the crucial factor to success. Here, too, we feel that we are taken seriously as a medium-sized company by the service provider.“
